Turkey oak (Quercus cerris L.) is more drought tolerant and better reflects climate variations compared to pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) in lowland mixed forests in northwestern Serbia: A stable carbon isotope ratio (?13C) and radial growth approach

چکیده

• Stable carbon isotope ratio (? 13 C) in latewood of tree rings is a better drought proxy than tree-ring width (TRW). Quercus cerris exhibited tolerance (<? robur . and have different ? C response to drought, while their TRW comparable. correlate more strongly with indices raw meteorological data. Tree-ring (TRW), stable intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE) data set chronologies were built for the period 1961–2000 two oak species (pedunculate – L. Turkey L.) northwestern Serbia (Vojvodina province). We focused on measured (temperature, precipitation cloud cover), events expressed by six indices, river level understand stress assess reliability climate when using or C. (and less stress) compared pedunculate oak, as manifested, respectively, negative lower iWUE values. Based generalised additive mixed model (GAMM) among studied, standardised evapotranspiration index showed best fit both C, Palmer severity exerted strong influence only TRW. It was thus concluded that responds rapidly variations

INTENZITET FOTOSINTEZE I VEGETATIVNI RAST HRASTA LUŽNJAKA (Quercus robur L.) U POKUSNOM NASADU PHOTOSYNTESIS INTENSITY AND VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF PEDUNCULATE OAK (Quercus robur L.) IN COMMON-GARDEN EXPERIMENT

Regeneration Patterns of European Oak Species (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl., Quercus robur L.) in Dependence of Environment and Neighborhood

Quercus robur L. (pedunculate oak) and Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl. (sessile oak) are two European oak species of great economic and ecological importance. Even though both oaks have wide ecological amplitudes of suitable growing conditions, forests dominated by oaks often fail to regenerate naturally. The regeneration performance of both oak species is assumed to be subject to a variety of v...

Leaf morphological and physiological adaptations of a deciduous oak (Quercus faginea Lam.) to the Mediterranean climate: a comparison with a closely related temperate species (Quercus robur L.).

'White oaks'--one of the main groups of the genus Quercus L.--are represented in western Eurasia by the 'roburoid oaks', a deciduous and closely related genetic group that should have an Arcto-Tertiary origin under temperate-nemoral climates. Nowadays, roburoid oak species such as Quercus robur L. are still present in these temperate climates in Europe, but others are also present in southern E...

1 Global and Neotropical Distribution and Diversity of Oak (genus Quercus) and Oak Forests

The genus Quercus is one of the most important clades of woody angiosperms in the northern hemisphere in terms of species diversity, ecological dominance, and economic value. Oaks are dominant members of a wide variety of habitats, including temperate deciduous forest, temperate and subtropical evergreen forest, subtropical and tropical savannah, subtropical woodland, oak-pine forest, oak-’piño...

Unusually limited pollen dispersal and connectivity of Pedunculate oak (Quercus robur) refugial populations at the species' southern range margin.

Low-latitudinal range margins of temperate and boreal plant species typically consist of scattered populations that persist locally in microrefugia. It remains poorly understood how their refugial habitats affect patterns of gene flow and connectivity, key components for their long-term viability and evolution. We examine landscape-scale patterns of historical and contemporary gene flow in refu...
